Large Professor has finally released a double LP collection of self produced beats under Redline distribution called, "Beatz Vol.1". Keep in mind that the Large Professor of the 90's, and the Large Pro of today (Pictured on the album cover without his signature specs and an MPC4000-not a trusty SP or ASR10) can't possibly be the same producer today. It was different times and so I fear due to his legendary status as one of the best Hiphop producers of all time, will also come some unfair criticism and disappointment from an extra high expectation that "Beatz Vol.1" has to be a mind blowing piece of work. I must admitt that the beats on here are not mind blowing, nor did I really expect them to be. I did find the majority of the beats on, "Beatz Vol.1" to be really dope though, signature Large Pro. So as far as I'm concerned Lare Professor still got it. He still got skills to make fat beats, no doubt about that! I enjoyed the album. So I hope people keep an open mind as they listen to "Beatz vol.1". Large Pro gives the listener a little bit of everything. A taste of the classic Large pro, and a taste of the updated Large Pro. the tracks are great for dance floor foreplay ... very ambient (and sounds like someone watched as much t.v. in the late 70's as i did) ... perfect grooves for when you wanna touch and feel but maybe want to just talk still and mabye see if his tongue is up to all the talk or the hype ... then some space to dance and see what he's really made of ... is he worthy of the midnight ride?

True indeed he doesnt have the SP anymore. Everyone who used it from Large Pro, Pete, the Beatnuts, DITC, all of their shit sounds ungrimey.
But this Large Pro shit is hot though, a lot better than that 1st Class bullshit.
At least cats like Spinna, EZ Moe Bee, and da Beatminerz (even though they sound terrible now) use it still.
Yeah if you listen to the new Large Pro album a lot of the kicks don't punch as hard as the ones I'm used to hearing from older Large Professor recordings. But the beats are still dope.
FYI
LARGE PRO used the SP1200, ASR and MPC samplers to create the album "BEATZ". That was just a picture of him using the MPC. Don't get it twisted.. LARGE PRO's Kicks & Snares still hit HARD!
